RAWALPINDI: Margalla Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) recently organized a vibrant six-day sports week aimed at nurturing students' teamwork, sportsmanship, and communication skills. This year's event held particular significance as it coincided with the institute’s silver jubilee. The students from all three disciplines: BDS, DPT, and PharmD participated in the event.
The inauguration ceremony, conducted at MIHS, commenced with recitations from the Holy Quran and Naat, followed by the national anthem and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by faculty members including the Principal and Dean MCD Prof Dr Amjad Mahmood, Dean MCP Prof Dr Sohail Ahmad (Pharm-D), Vice-Principal MCD Prof Dr Shakir Khan, and Vice-Principal ICP Associate Prof Dr Adil Umer. Prof Dr Amjad Mehmood ignited the ceremonial torch, officially commencing the sports week.
The initial days of the event were dedicated to various sports activities such as cricket, football, throw ball, badminton, and table tennis, fostering a spirit of healthy competition among the participants.
Students and faculty alike also engaged in arm wrestling, tug of war, and chess competitions. The prize distribution ceremony, held at the MIHS auditorium, witnessed the participation of Mr. Mutahir Sohail, an accomplished badminton player and coach, Shakila Jalil, In-charge of the Rawalpindi Press Club, and Mr Muhammad Ali Larosh, National Champion (double) of 2023, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Trophies and certificates were awarded to all winners.
The event also featured a fun-filled food festival and poster competition on the theme "The Dilemma of Indoor Generation" on its third. Esteemed judges including Dr Sohail, Dr Adil,
Brig Dr Abdul Rehman, and Dr Sidra oversaw the proceedings and distributed souvenirs to the winners.
The MIHS Debate Society organised lively competitions in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Bait-Bazi, and Tahtul-Lafz, with Raja Abdul Qayyum, Mr Tahir Hanafi, Mr Akbar Khan Niazi, and Ali Asgar Samar as the judging panel.
Moreover, the Qiraat and Naat competitions among students were held under the supervision of the Qiraat and Naat committee. Anatomy Department Head Prof Dr Farheen Masood, Qari Muhammad Ayaz, and Madam Shahnaz Jamal MIHS graced the event as judges.
The festivities culminated with the annual day event, featuring a prize distribution ceremony honouring academic achievers, student performances, and an annual dinner.
Chairman MIHS Dr Abdul Qadir, Director Dr Pervaiz, Dean MCP Prof Dr Sohail Ahmed, Vice Principal MCD Prof Dr Shakir Khan, alongside senior faculty and distinguished guests, contributed to the success of the event.
This weeklong celebration, comprising a plethora of extracurricular activities, not only promoted students’ physical well-being but also fostered a holistic approach to their development.
The collaborative efforts of the MIHS faculty, staff, and students made the event a resounding success, underscoring the institute's commitment to facilitating comprehensive growth and development in all aspects of student life.
