LAHORE: In a significant development, the registration of the Pakistan Dental Association (PDA), a society that was originally registered in 1960, has been revoked by the Punjab government due to its prolonged dormancy and non-compliance with statutory requirements.
In response to an application by Dr Khurshid Ahmad Nasim, the Office of the Registrar, Joint Stock Companies, Lahore informed the Pakistan Dental Association had failed to file the mandatory annual documents for over five decades. Despite repeated notices from the Punjab government, including a public announcement in 2019 urging all registered societies to submit their statutory documents, the management of the association remained unresponsive.
The letter, dated October 25, 2024, details that the PDA's registration, which had been granted under the provisions of the Societies Registration Act, 1860, was rendered inactive as the association did not adhere to the legal obligations. The Home Department of the Government of Punjab had previously issued directions for the cancellation of the registration of any society that failed to comply with the law. Consequently, the registration of the Pakistan Dental Association was formally revoked, and the organization no longer exists legally.
The letter explained that despite the Punjab Government's efforts, including a July 2019 notice published in Daily Nawa-e-Waqt urging organizations to submit their overdue documents within 15 days of receiving a renewal certificate, the PDA did not respond. As a result, the society has been removed from the official records, and no further action can be taken regarding the issuance of certified copies of its documents.
