Finland narrows Moderna's COVID vaccine use after Sweden, Denmark

HELSINKI- Finland has recently joined  Sweden and Denmark on suspending the use of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine in young males due to reports of a rare cardiovascular side effect.

The Director of the Finnish Health Institute, Mika Salminen, said that Finland would instead give Pfizer's vaccine to men aged 30 and above. Finland has been offering shots to people aged 12 and above.

He further said that in a Nordic study involving Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, it was found that men who received Moderna Spikevax and were under age 30 had a slightly higher risk than others of developing myocarditis.

Recently, Swedish and Danish health officials had also announced that they would stop using the Moderna vaccine for all young adults and children.
