KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has recently granted provisional approval for Pfizer/ BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine to be used as a booster shot.
The approval authorised the vaccine to be used only on individuals aged 18 and over and after at least six months of their second dose, the health ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, the authorities had said that booster shots would not be mandatory but were highly recommended for vulnerable and high-risk groups.
The mixing of different vaccines will also be allowed for booster doses. In addition to the Pfizer/BioNTech shot, Malaysia has been using Britain's AstraZeneca and Chinese firms Sinovac and CanSino Biologics' vaccine in its national inoculation campaign.
