International Youth Day at FJDC

International Youth Day at FJDC

Karachi: The International Youth Day was held at FJDC on 7th September 2022. It comprised of a one-day interactive Conference on Literacy and Youth Skills and included speakers from various professional backgrounds.

International Youth Day is celebrated every year on the 12th of August to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of today’s youth to society. This day also highlights that the young generation is not only tomorrow’s leaders but is also responsible for contributing to the development of today’s society.

The United Nations website states, ‘The objective of International Youth Day 2022 is to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and leave no one behind. It will also raise awareness on certain barriers to intergenerational solidarity, notably ageism, which impacts young and old persons while having detrimental effects on society as a whole”.

The theme for this year’s International Youth Day is ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: creating a world for all ages, which highlights ‘Ageism’, a practice that discriminates based on the age of an individual and affects both the young and the older generation.

Unfortunately, Pakistan is no exception. A hierarchy exists here where people are judged according to their ages, and the younger generations do not get equal opportunities based on their age.

We at Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) are aware that the future of Pakistan depends on the youth of this country, which is why we observe this day by recognizing our students and their achievements, hearing their voices and appreciating their actions and initiatives in various events, community work, projects and drives.

For this year’s International Youth Day, FJDC has held a one-day interactive conference on Literacy and Youth Skills on 7th September 2022. It comprised of eminent speakers from various fields consisting of Education, IT, Manufacturing and E-Commerce industries.
