KARACHI: The Department of Community Dentistry at Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) successfully organized a comprehensive Oral Health Screening Camp at the Zest Model School. The school, operated by the NGO World Foundation and supported by the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, provides education to underprivileged children.
The outreach initiative was led by Dr. Hussain Askary (CEO & Head of Community Dentistry), Dr. Wajiha Anzar (Assistant Professor of Community Dentistry), Dr. Hannah Emmanuel (Lecturer), and Dr. Faiza Nazar (Lecturer). Dr. Sabiha Mirza (Vice Principal, Pre-Clinical Campus) supervised the event. Active participation from second-year BDS students greatly contributed to the program’s impact. Over the course of four days, the camp provided dental screenings and oral health education to more than 550 students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The primary aim of this initiative was to promote oral health awareness and offer access to essential dental care. The team conducted detailed dental check-ups, provided individualized treatment guidance, and distributed dental care kits to encourage proper oral hygiene. Each student also received a personal medical card, allowing them to access free dental treatment at Fatima Jinnah Dental Hospital. Additional services included dietary counseling and personalized oral hygiene instructions to foster lifelong healthy habits.
This community outreach program reflects Fatima Jinnah Dental College’s unwavering commitment to community service and public health. By empowering students and underserved populations with better access to oral healthcare, the initiative aligns with the institution’s mission to promote compassionate service and social responsibility among its students and faculty.
