ISLAMABAD-The Drugs Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) recently asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to build consensus amongst health departments to review and amend the drugs sales rules.
The letter was written to Dr Palitha Mahipala, Country Head, WHO by the DRAP asked to review, amend and harmonise drugs sales rules (human and veterinary) to ensure supervision only by pharmacists (Category A). The DRAP said that the global action plan on antimicrobial resistance diseases could not be reduced without amending the rules. There is a need to make a consensus amongst all stakeholders.
The letter available said that misuse and overuse of antimicrobials is a global and national threat in the shape of antimicrobials resistance.
“As per global action plan, (Antimicrobial resistance) AMR cannot be reduced until the use of antimicrobials minimised,” said the letter.
