FAISALABAD- The initiativetaken by Dental News of Pakistan to celebrate the world Oral health Day in full zeal in Pakistan now enabled many other centers to mark the event in a befitting manner. In this regard the dental section Punjab medical college arranged a full day program in collaboration with International College of Dentists (ICD) USA.
This is the first time that ICD had participated in Pakistan to celebrate the World Oral Health Day. There was a complete holiday in dental section at PMC and all the classes of BDS, postgraduate students, dental faculty, paramedics and nurses gathered at the main door and started the Oral health Walk under the leadership of Dean Punjab Medical College and Head of Dental Section Dr Arshad Malik. The walk participant had posters of pictures, sayingsfrom the Quran and Holy Prophet’steachings regarding oral hygiene. The walk ended at the main auditorium of PMC.
The oral health symposia Chief guest Dean of PMC Prof Mohammed Ali Trimzi, Guest of honors Dr Rashid Maqbool Medical Superintendent Allied Hospital Faisalabad and head of Dental section Dr Arshad Malik presided.
The session started with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by natt-e rasool-maqbool. The HOD dental section highlighted the aim and objective of celebrations of world oral health day; he read the massage of the president and secretary general of international college of dentist on this occasion. The dean PMCin his address thanked the dental section and ICD for their efforts. He stressed the need to arrange school health programs, society awareness with participation from general dental surgeons.
Later MS Allied Hospital highlighted the Govt. efforts for uplifting measures of dental profession in Punjab. He gave suggestion that dental center at RHC, THQ and DHQ level can play a vital role in creating awareness of dental hygiene in general public.
DMS Dental section thanked the guests and souvenirs were presented to them followed by a round of Poster competition area where 19 posters were displayed, the judges adjudged first, second and third prizes to the successful students. Oral presentation completion was also organized covering interesting topics like, tobacco, pan ,gutka and naswar role in oral cancer, Miswak and tooth brush comparison, uses and side effects of tooth pastes, mouthwashes and powders, quackery in Pakistan and many more. This three hour competition also included two scripts on dental treatment by a dental quack.
The judges, Prof Rabia Awan, Dr Iqbal, Dr Asif Raoof, Dr Nadeem Tariq, and Dr Javed announced the successful students’ names for first ,second, and third positions. The shields were awarded to them. At the end the Head of dental section Dr Arshad Malik thanked all the participants who devotedly made efforts to make this event successful.-PR
