KARACHI: The Department of Community Dentistry of Baqai Dental College, Baqai Medical University (BMU), recently organised a ‘Fissure Sealant Workshop’ for the second-year dental students.
Prof. Dr Asghar Ali Shigri, Head of the Community Dentistry Department, BMU and other faculty members, including Dr Raza Abbas Abidi, Dr Samreen Shafqat and Dr Mahwish Bano, supervised the workshop.
Dr Asghar Ali Shigri explained the importance and significance of pit and fissure sealants. He further explained its indications and contraindications and step by step procedure of performing pit and fissure sealants.
The students were introduced to ‘Phantom Head’, which allows students to learn processes of tooth restoration in isolation from the patient and the complexities of the clinical environment. The fissure sealant workshop was simulated on these phantom heads for students to gain a better experience.
The department had arranged all the necessary equipment for the students to understand the procedure competently. The students carried out the pit and fissure sealant procedure on a prepared tooth on the phantom heads.
