QUETTA: The faculty of Bolan Medical College, Quetta, have recently acquired their long-awaited and over-due promotions in the Promotion and Selection Board meeting under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Balochistan.
Dr Asma Uppal and Dr Jahangir Hammad from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department were promoted as Professors.
Both of them are fellows of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). They served as Associate Professors in the department, and their long-due promotions have been a sigh of relief for the undergraduate and postgraduate students alike.
Dr Abdul Samad Gichki, who holds a master’s degree in Oral Medicine from Mahidol University, Thailand, will now serve as the head of the Oral Medicine department. Earlier, he had been serving as Associate Professor in the department.
The Prosthodontics department finally got its Assistant Professor after a long delay since the retirement of Prof Tehmina Asad in 2018. The new Assistant Professor, Dr Shai Mureed, who holds an M.Sc. degree from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Amir Butt, has served as Senior Registrar since 2016.
The department of Operative Dentistry got its gap in administrative and teaching hierarchy filled by promoting Dr Talha Asad Tareen to the rank of Assistant Professor. Dr Talha has served in the same department as a demonstrator since 2010 and was currently serving as Senior Registrar since 2018. He completed his MDS in Operative Dentistry under the supervision of Prof. Zahid Iqbal, President Pakistan Association of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics.
