LAHORE: A one-day workshop on Removable Prosthodontics was conducted at the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR). The workshop was held on September 7, 2019, and was organized as a part of the IADSR 9th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).
Prof Dr Tayyaba Saleem, HOD of Prosthodontics at the Islamabad Medical and Dental College, facilitated the workshop.
The first session consisted of an introduction to removable prosthesis and its types. Prof Tayyaba discussed tooth loss and replacement options in detail with indications of the removable partial denture (RPD), common problems, and their respective solutions. Participants were provided with pictures to formulate a treatment plan for removable dentures.
The facilitator further explained the causes and treatment options for common post insertion complaints concerning removable dentures. An in-depth group discussion was held to answer the queries of the participants and solve the problems, which they faced during their respective practice.
Dr Tayyaba also taught abutment tooth preparation for cast partial denture and overdenture, the sequence of preparation and steps of preparing guide planes, rest seats, and retentive areas in her lecture.
The participants performed abutment tooth preparation, overdenture abutment tooth preparation, and cast partial preparation on typodont teeth. Professor Tayyaba solved the problems faced by them during practice.
Lastly, post-insertion complaints were discussed, and the facilitator gave their possible solutions. The workshop concluded following the completion of its planned objectives.
