KARACHI: World Pharmacist Day was marked by the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) with an event that emphasised the critical role of pharmacists in the healthcare sector.

The event was led by IPS Principal Prof Huma Ali and organised under the leadership of Prof Kiran Rafiq, Chairperson of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Student Advisor.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon praised the IPS for its efforts, stating, "Pharmacists are integral to healthcare, and IPS is shaping the future of the profession with its dedication to excellence."

Professor Huma Ali, in her keynote address, described pharmacists as the "cornerstone of medical sciences" and highlighted their indispensable role in patient care.

Registrar Dr. Azam Khan also acknowledged the profession, remarking, "Pharmacists are key to ensuring patient safety and advancing healthcare standards," while applauding IPS for its unwavering commitment to pharmacy education.

Vice Principal and Director of Research, Prof Huma Shareef, commended the IPS faculty's collective efforts in promoting innovation in pharmaceutical education and research.

The event featured alumni speakers such as Dr. Maaz Farrukh and Dr. Sheeraz Ali, who shared their professional journeys, offering inspiration and valuable insights to current students.

A workshop led by Dr. Mazhar Shams focused on the latest trends in Research and Development (R&D) within the pharmaceutical industry.

The event was attended by Director HR Dr. Rahat Naz, while the organising team, including Dr. Yusra Shafiq, Dr. Erum Zaheer, Dr. Suleman Imtiaz, and Dr. Anas Hanif, along with a team of student volunteers, contributed to the success of the event.

The event concluded with recognition of students’ achievements and a cake-cutting ceremony.
