KARACHI: Paying tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces during the 1965 war, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) marked Defence Day on 6th September.

The event, led by JSMU Student Council President Afeefa Siddiqui and her deputy, Divya Mohan Lal, honoured the brave soldiers who defended the nation with valor.

The ceremony aimed to educate students about the significance of the 1965 war and the courage of the armed forces through speeches, presentations, and documentaries.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon stressed the importance of instilling patriotism in the younger generation. "Our soldiers displayed unparalleled bravery in 1965, and it is essential for the youth to take pride in this legacy as they shape Pakistan’s future," he said.

Registrar Dr Azam Khan said, "Defence Day reminds us of the unity and resilience demonstrated by our forces. We must remain steadfast in the face of challenges, as our soldiers did in 1965."

The event concluded with students pledging to uphold values of unity, faith, and discipline, ensuring that the legacy of the 1965 war endures.

In a related event, JSMU’s School of Oral Health Sciences celebrated Defence Day at Educators School on Burns Road.

Around 500 primary and secondary students dressed in military uniforms participated in the event, and the Community Dentistry Department conducted dental screenings for the young students.

Dr Maryam Azfar, Dr Daroshum, Dr Hina Shah, and Principal Prof Zubair Abbasi represented JSMU at the event.
