PMA for Dr Yasmin’s release on humanitarian grounds

KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has demanded the government to immediately release the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid, who is also a former president of PMA Centre and a cancer survivor, on humanitarian grounds.

The association expressed this unanimous resolve in its Central Council Meeting, held at a local hotel in Quetta recently.

At the meeting, the PMA said Dr. Rashid, a distinguished gynecologist, who has been unjustly detained and is in critical need of medical care, demanding she must be allowed to receive the necessary treatment without further delay.

It said Dr. Rashid, a dedicated healthcare professional, has tirelessly served her community for many years. Despite her own health challenges, she has continued to provide exceptional care to her patients and has been a pillar of support for her colleagues in the medical field, it added. Her unwavering commitment to the well-being of others deserves recognition and respect.

The PMA expressed deep concern over the health condition of Dr. Rashid, saying her prolonged detention is a serious injustice, adding that as a cancer survivor, the PTI leader requires specialized medical attention, which she is unable to access while in custody.

The association urges the authorities to approach her case with compassion and empathy, calling for her immediate release so she can receive the treatment she desperately needs.

The PMA calls on the government to act swiftly to release Dr. Rashid on humanitarian grounds and to ensure that she receives the medical care, asserting that the health of all individuals, including those in custody, must be a top priority.
