The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Karachi had announced the results and recently held a grand Convocation ceremony for the graduating batches in numerous fields of Health Sciences. Among the various batches that had recently graduated and received their degrees was the very first batch of graduating students who had completed their studies in the new Dental Hygienists Programme at DUHS. Some of the most outstanding graduates in this Dental Hygienist programme at DUHS were; Dr. Anum Khursheed, who stood first in the Dental Hygienists Department and won the award of Best Graduate (DCP – 2013). Another student – Dr. Madiha Shabbir also performed exceptionally well and stood 2nd in the whole batch, while the 3rd Position Holder was Dr. Aasiya Hassan. Among the other Graduates, qualifying in this emerging field were; Farheen Rafiq, Mahgul Naz, Mehwish Sarwar, Sana Sabir, Sumer Malik, Rubab, Ruquia Solangi, Saeeda Soomro, Sidra Maqsood, Tooba Ashfaque, Umma Davi, Huma Saleem, Shaista Naseer, Umi Farwa, Victoria, Bushra and a male graduate named; Aamir Ali. After graduating, these Dental hygienists can become licensed oral health professionals who are trained and specialized in prevention and treatment of oral diseases, as well as protection of patients' total health. They manage numerous crucial functions in Dentistry. Whether by administering a prophylaxis (tooth cleaning) or taking X-rays, dental hygienists — dentistry's advanced defensive guards — are often the first members of the dental team to treat patients. By providing essential preventive dental care, dental hygienists make it possible for dentists to focus on other complex and specialized dental procedures. Dental hygienists play a vital collaborative and auxiliary role in dentistry, to ensure the highest and most comprehensive and efficient level of oral health care for all patients. Dental hygienists also provide services important for good health to under-served populations. With specialized experience, these dental hygienists can also manage preventive programs on a mass-scale and become developers or consultants.
