Lahore: Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) launched its 15th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) recently with zeal and zest . 

The introduction of the diploma was given by Prof Ayaz Ali Khan, Dean IADSR, and explained that this diploma will provide knowledge and skills beyond the highest standards. He further elaborated the aim of the diploma is to transform the oral health landscape of the country by empowering healthcare professionals and the public. 

He assured that upon the completion of training every participant shall be able to treat patients with an effective and upgraded technique. The first day was dedicated to Pain Management and the medically compromised in dental practice and two sessions were held in that regard. 

The first session was conducted on Pain Management for general dental practitioners by Dr Khawaja Shehryar Nasir, Diplomate, American Board of Orofacial Pain and Consultant Orofacial Pain Medicine. He explained that the management of pain in dentistry encompasses several procedural issues which include the delivery of anesthetic, and the management of post-procedural pain along with that, pain diagnosis and management strategies for Orofacial conditions that cause pain in the face and head. 

He thoroughly elaborated common pain encountered in practice during odontogenic treatment. Dr Shehryar taught the pharmacology of odontogenic pain with their management. He further taught non-odontogenic pain as well as their management. Participants were given the opportunity to interact and clear their concerns regarding the topic. 

The second session held on the medically compromised, was facilitated by Prof Ayaz Ali Khan, Dean IADSR. He elaborated on the anaphylactic reaction or myocardial infarction and its management. He taught the doses that are to be given of local anesthetics and toxicity that might happen due to inappropriate doses of anesthetics. Basic support life with its importance and components were explained by the facilitator. Dr Ayyaz further answered all the queries raised by the participants and made the session interactive. At the end of the session, participants shared their feedback and suggestions that are highly valuable to IADSR.
