KARACHI: Dr Nadeem Jan, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, is set to represent Pakistan at the 70th session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) scheduled to commence in Cairo on October 9.
Addressing the press at the Islamabad International Airport, the minister highlighted the upcoming meetings with health ministers from friendly nations, where discussions will be focused on promoting collaboration in technology transfer for vaccine production within Pakistan.
Dr Jan emphasised that diligent efforts will be made to stress Pakistan's role as the host of the esteemed Global Health Security Summit.
During this WHO moot, Dr Jan will provide insights into Pakistan's initiatives, challenges, and future action plans. The Eastern Mediterranean Region, which stretches from Pakistan in South Asia to Mauritania in North Africa, will be the central point of discussion.
The conference agenda includes the election of the regional director for WHO EMRO, in which Pakistan will cast its vote. Dr Jan, representing Pakistan, will actively participate in the election and present its annual performance report to the EMRO health ministers during the conference.
The issues to be discussed at the moot will include universal health coverage, health emergencies, and the associated challenges.
Dr Nadeem Jan will provide insights into the reforms designed to address healthcare sector challenges.
