WOHD'22: BDC arranges free dental checkups, awareness walk

KARACHI: To celebrate World Oral Health Day 2022 (WOHD'22), the Department of Community Dentistry, Baqai Dental College (BDC), Baqai Medical University (BMU), arranged numerous academic-oriented activities involving faculty and students.

 Under the guidance of Prof. Dr Asghar Ali Shigri and his department, these activities endure for an entire week. They aim to educate society on the importance of keeping a healthy mouth to keep it functioning properly and maintain overall health and quality of life.  

Different activities were held at the Baqai's five primary health care centres, including Baqai Dental College, i.e., Salimullah Fahmi School Unit 1,  Baqai Medical Complex (Khuda ki Basti),  F.W.C Layari, Fahmi Health and Education Centre (Gulberg); and Baqai Medical Complex (Khushal Nagar, Gharo).

Moreover, oral hygiene awareness lectures were held following all the SOPs stated by the health commission. Furthermore, BDC also organized an 'awareness walk' and free dental checkups to intensify the message of oral hygiene.

Moreover, the Department of Community Dentistry also held a WOHD seminar. The speakers were from three different dental colleges; Dr S Hussain Askary, Head of Community Dentistry Department, FJDC; Prof. Dr Ambrina Qureshi, Chairperson, Dept. of Community and Preventive Dentistry, DUHS; and Prof. Dr Ayaz Ali Khan, Dean, IADSR glorified the event with their presence. 

Dr S Hussain Askari shared his knowledge on the fight against mouth cancer and looked at it from a global perspective. Prof. Dr Ambrina Qureshi talked about the different global strategies for oral health. Prof. Dr Ayaz Ali Khan spoke about the body and mouth connection.

After the seminar's conclusion, the "Awareness Walk" was held. The guest speakers inaugurated the walk, along with Dr Kashif Ikram, Principal BDC,  Dr Talha Sidiqqui, Vice-Principal BDC and Prof Dr Asghar Ali Shigri.
