KARACHI: The health department recently initiated a door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination drive in Jamshed Town that reported a suspected case of Omicron variant.

Atif Vighio, the health department's spokesperson, said the area wasn't under any form of lockdown yet; however, the decision in this regard would be taken once the test results of the 51 samples obtained from people residing in the neighbourhood of the suspected female patient would be received.

As officials found a large number of unvaccinated individuals in the locality, the department, in the meantime, was focusing on community counselling on COVID-19 vaccination and standard operating procedure (SOPs).

Earlier, the health department had confirmed the first suspected case of Omicron variant in the country. The suspected female patient, a resident of Jamshed Town, had been discharged from Aga Khan University Hospital and has been under home isolation along with another family member in her 80s.
