RAWALPINDI: In the wake of the recently issued circular of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Margalla College of Dentistry, Margalla Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS), made arrangements for its faculty and students to attend the webinar. Punjab Health Department had organised the webinar during Dubai Expo 2020 through the Zoom link.
The delegation addressed the webinar comprised of Prof. Javed Akram, Vice-Chancellor, UHS, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice-Chancellor, King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and Prof. Faisal Dar, Dean, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center (PKLI), Lahore.
The main highlights of the events were the participation of thousands of students & faculty across Punjab through video links and the documentary showcasing the performance of the health department and initiatives taken by the government.
In his address, Prof. Javed Iqbal emphasised the need to improve medical education, health care and research. He also added that UHS has been offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in more than 39 disciplines.
He presented the vision to establish Punjab Medical City at the university's Jinnah campus with a Biotechnology park, a 500-bed hospital and an international medical college. He further stated that a new campus had been set to conduct research on vaccines and medicines.
Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted KEMU's excellent services regarding telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic and ease for patients to access doctors sitting in far-flung areas. He said the university aimed at starting telemedicine on a permanent basis with improvements and collaboration with other universities as well.
Dr Faisal Dar gave us an overview of the performance of PKLI with regard to organ transplantation and its increase in recent years. The organisation has an independent management board thriving on clinical governance business opportunities.
In conclusion, the event highlights well the progress of the Punjab health sector's institutes and organisations. It would also serve to attract foreign investment in the health sector in Pakistan.
