KARACHI: The Bahria University Dental College (BUDC) recently organized an insightful workshop on hypertensive disorders and their relevance to dental practice for third-year BDS students, in collaboration with the departments of Oral Pathology, Medicine, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
The event was led by Prof. Dr. Daud Mirza, Head of the Department of Oral Pathology, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sajid Abbas Jaffri, Head of Medicine, and Maj. Gen. (r) Prof. Dr. Shehla M. Baqai HI (M), Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Dean of Health Sciences at BUHSC (K).
A team of facilitators, including Dr. Afsheen Maqsood, Dr. Arsalan Khalid, Dr. Muhammad Shahrukh Khan Sadiq, Dr. Saima Mazhar, Prof. Dr. Sajid Abbas, Dr. Sannia Perwaiz, Dr. Lalarukh, Dr. Faryal, and Dr. Zainab Fakhar, ensured an enriching learning experience for all participants.
The event commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran and a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Daud Mirza. Prof. Dr. Sajid Abbas Jaffri then provided a comprehensive overview of hypertension, its etiology, manifestations, and implications, laying the foundation for subsequent discussions.
Prof. Dr. Shehla M. Baqai HI (M), an expert in gynecology and obstetrics, explored the intricacies of pregnancy-induced hypertension. She emphasized the importance of understanding this condition, particularly in dental care, where pregnant patients require special attention.
The workshop featured interactive sessions, with 37 students divided into four groups. This hands-on approach bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world application, providing a holistic learning experience.
In his closing remarks, BUDC Principal Prof. Dr. Kashif Naqvi said the workshop encouraged students to apply their knowledge in their future dental practice.
A certificate distribution ceremony followed, where Prof Baqai HI (M) and Prof Naqvi presented certificates to participants, organizers, and facilitators, commending their engagement and dedication to learning.
