KARACHI: The Department of Science of Dental Materials, Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC), recently arranged a 'Scientific Poster Competition' among 2nd Year BDS students.
Vice Admiral (R) Khalid Amin (HI) M, Director General, BUMDC, Prof Wahab Baksh Kadri, Principal, Dental College, BUMDC and Prof. Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice Principal, Dental College, BUMDC, graced the event with their presence. Dr M. Arqam Najmi, Dr Israa Ahmed and Dr Mansoor Akhter facilitated the competition under Prof. Dr Syed Ahmed Omer, Head of Science of Dental Materials Department, BUMDC.
Dr Sameer Qureshi, Associate Professor, Head of Prosthodontics Department, Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC), and Prof. Dr Shama Asghar, Head of Operative Dentistry Department, BUMDC, were also invited to judge the competition.
The competition was held among nine groups, who presented their posters on different topics based on their curriculum. Participants placed references to different researches related to the topic they presented.
The event aimed to better understand and gain a deeper insight into material sciences, its broad base applications, and inculcate research culture among dental students.
Students were judged on their poster layout, presentation skills, content, and question-answer session. Waqar Raza, Fareeha Sajjad, Sumaira Rasheed and Neha Rehan obtained 1st position on presenting a poster on Mercury and its Hazards. The poster on Glass Ionomer Cements, presented by Eesha Hameed, Abdul Hadi, Samreen Fattani and Ain-ul-Hoor, took second place. The poster titled Composite Resin secured 3rd position given by Fatima Shabir, Khezran Zehra, Arish Sohail and M. Ashir.
In the end, Dr Syed Ahmed Omer concluded the ceremony by appreciating and acknowledging the students' hard work that they had put in to make this event a success.
