Islamabad- On October 6th, Dentistry Con 2018, themed “Exploring the Recent Variations in Dentistry & Oral Healthcare” was held at the Pak-China Friendship Center, in Islamabad. Dental News, the leading dental periodical, was the primary organizer and exclusive media partner of the event. The event was executed in collaboration with Pakistan Dental Association (PDA), an organization that is constantly thriving to modernize and advance the Pakistani dental community.
Dentistry Con was the dental branch of the bigger International Health Expo, organized by Dr Jawad Faisal, who is the Assistant Professor of ENT FM&DC, PIMS, Islamabad. The expo stretched from October 5th to 7th. It was aimed at the creation and provision of educational, networking, and trade opportunities, and therefore was of interest to all categories of educators, medical/dental practitioners, students, and manufacturers.
The dentistry conference, Dentistry Con’18 organized by Dental News Pakistan in collaboration with PDA was graced by speakers of international stature, from across Pakistan, who deliberated well on their respective specialties. As the theme indicates the presentations and speeches at the conference were concerned with innovation and advancements in the dental practice. Professionals and students from all over Pakistan attended the event.
The conference proceedings commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran, which was followed by a brief introduction of the conference delivered by Dr Binish Aleem, the Master of Ceremony, who is the Head of Oral Pathology Department at Frontier Medical and Dental College Abbottabad. She welcomed the delegates and offered tribute and homage to Dr. Arif ur Rehman Alvi, the President of Islamic republic of Pakistan. She presented a documentary highlighting his services for dentistry, and congratulated him on behalf of the dental community on becoming the president. Dr Humza Bin Saeed, the conference secretary, welcomed all the participants with his warm words, and made sure everyone was comfortably seated before the presentations started.
At the conference, topics touching all dental specialties including Orthodontics, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry, Pedodontics, Periodontics and Oral Surgery, were covered. The first session kicked off with a lecture on ‘Orthodontics & Orthognatic Surgery Interaction’ by Prof Ulfat Bashir. Following that Dr Adnan Aslam spoke on ‘Aesthetic and Functional Improvement with Orthognathic Surgery’. Next, Prof. Dr Ayaz Ali Khan, the head of the Dental Section at Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore enlightened the audience of the technology related advancements in dental practice, and their acceptance and implementation in Pakistan. His presentation was followed by a lecture from the esteemed Prof. Dr Amjad Wyne who is the Director of Postgraduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the King Saud University College of Dentistry, in Riyadh. Dr Wyne spoke on ‘Types and Management of Dental Emergencies’. The session reached conclusion with Prof. Dr Arshad Malik’s speech who gave an introduction of ICD, and a presentation on ‘A Modified Approach to Use Temporails Muscle/Fascia in Interpositional Arthoplasty for the treatment of TMJ Ankylosis’.
Dr Adil Shahnawaz launched the second half of the conference with a lecture on ‘Making Endodontic Practice more predictable’, following which Prof Dr Faizal Ghani spoke on Crown & Bridge Removal. Prof Fazal Ghani recently visited Argentina to the attend FDI’s World Dental Conference’18 as a PDA representative.
Professor Sultan Zeb Khan, a post doctorate from Japan who is currently involved in a research programme there, discussed the ‘Regenration of osteodentine like Hard Tissue’ at the event. The concluding lecture was given by Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan on ‘Remineralising and Antibacterial Dental Composite’.
Shields and certificates were distributed among the participants by Dr. Jawad Faisal, who was the chairman for the scientific session. He congratulated the organizers and thanked Dental News and the sponsors for putting up a great show. The conference concluded with a note of thanks by Dr. Benish Aleem.
A scrumptious gala dinner was served as a success party to all the attendees and a musical night was arranged at the end of the day.
