ISLAMABAD: The federal government has completed the formation of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the apex body in the country to regulate the medical education sector.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (MNHSRC) has said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the PMDC formation.
The PMDC members are selected on merit and get appointed for a four-year tenure.
The members include Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amjad Siraj, Prof Rizwan Taj, Muhammad Zubair Khan, Dr Mahmood Aurangzeb and Dentist Prof Tahmina Asad.
Jawad Amin Khan has been approved as a philanthropist, while Chaudhry Sultan Mansoor and chartered accountant Noorul Haq have been approved for legal affairs.
According to the spokesperson, more than 70 candidates had appeared for the interview before the search committee headed by Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel.
Mr Patel said in his statement that the completion of the PMDC will help improve the field of medical education in the country.
He said that all the problems related to medical education will be solved on priority basis, adding that the process of health sector reforms is going on apace.
