Professor Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman Khan – A Profile

 

As the dental fraternity, close friends and family mourn the tragic demise of Professor Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman, it is important to highlight some of the most prominent contributions he made to the promotion of dentistry, and improvement of dental education in Pakistan.

Born on the 10th of November, 1952, in Quetta, Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman acquired his BDS degree from the Liaquat Medical College in Jamshoro in 1975. A year later, he was hired as a Demonstrator in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Bolan Medical College, Quetta. He then pursued his MDS (post graduation) in his field of interest and passion, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Punjab University, Lahore and completed his training in the year 1981. From 1985 till 1989, Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman served as the Assistant Professor Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Bolan Medical College. In 1991, he was declared Head of the Dental Section and Associate Professor at the same college, and he retained that post till 2001, after which he was promoted to the position of Professor Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr Aziz was then appointed as the Principle and Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Margalla College of Dentistry. He became Medical Superintendent at the same College in 2002. In 2003, Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman joined Baqai Dental College as Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and served this position till December 2014. He passed away on the 7th of December 2014, leaving students, colleagues, faculty, friends and family with heavy hearts.

Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman was known for his limitless, boundless knowledge and command on the theoretical and practical aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He passed on his wisdom to enlighten young minds diligently till the end of his days, and will forever be remembered for his many contributions to the field.

The Presidents PDA central Dr Saqib Rashid and PDA Sindh Dr Mahmood Shah expressed their heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of the professor and prayed for the bereaved family.  Publisher, editor and all staff members of Dental News and JPDA also expressed their condolences.
