MULTAN: Nishtar Institute of Dentistry (NID) recently hosted a Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop for its final year BDS students aiming to equip them with essential knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively handle emergency situations until advanced medical help is available.
The workshop’s primary objective was to train the students in critical life-saving techniques and prepare them to provide immediate assistance in emergency situations. Through hands-on exercises and interactive sessions at the workshop, the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of various emergency response protocols.
The workshop covered key topics such as the role of a first aid care provider, providing care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), placing individuals in the recovery position, operating Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and administering first aid for various injuries including burns, fractures, eye injuries, bleeding control, head and neck injuries, and heat and cold-related emergencies. Practical sessions ensured that students acquired the necessary skills to respond effectively during these scenarios.
The workshop effectively combined theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, enabling the students to develop proficiency in life-saving techniques. The interactive nature of the sessions fostered a collaborative learning environment, ensuring that students were well-prepared to respond to emergencies.
Dr Amjad Bari, Principal, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry (NID), expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the workshop. He stated, "The Basic Life Support Workshop provided our final year BDS students with an excellent opportunity to enhance their emergency response skills. By providing hands-on training and practical exercises, we have equipped them with the necessary tools to make a difference in critical situations. We believe this workshop will greatly contribute to their professional development and overall competence as dental practitioners."
He said the workshop’s success highlights the institution's commitment to delivering comprehensive education and training. By providing students with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergencies, the college continues to produce competent and compassionate dental professionals, he added.
By attending the workshop, the participants acquired hands-on experience in using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). They were trained in proper usage and familiarised themselves with the necessary steps to operate the device effectively during emergencies.
