KARACHI, 11th May 2014 – Dow University Health Sciences (DUHS) recently held its 5th Fifth Convocation to confer Degrees, Gold Medals and Shields to over 1,200 graduates belonging to different disciplines at Ojha Campus of Dow University, Karachi. The degrees were conferred upon the graduates of MBBS, BDS, Nursing and Medical Technology and other postgraduates of various disciplines for the year 2013 and 2014. Health Minister - Dr. Sagheer Ahmed was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Pro-Chancellor of the University also attended the convocation. A large number of Dignitaries, Academic Council Members, Professors, Chairmen, HoDs, Professors, Lecturers, Physicians, Parents and Students attended the Convocation. On the occasion, Health Minister, Dr. Sagheer Ahmed as the Pro Chancellor of the University said that; being a member of the medical community, I acknowledge the hard work a student has to render during the years of his education. The convocation day is a thirst quenching occasion for all of them. It is important that all the graduates realize that the profession they have chosen demands service to the humanity, irrespective of creed, color or cast. He also congratulated the graduates and their parents. He lauded the efforts of honor-holders and reminded all graduates of the responsibility that has been placed on their shoulders as medical practitioners. He also appreciated the efforts of Vice Chancellor DUHS - Prof. Masood Hameed Khan and his faculty members for the establishment and development of the University. In his address Prof. Masood Hameed Khan evaluated the progress of the University since its inception. He highlighted the developments in the University over the years. He informed that since its establishment, the University has produced 7382 undergraduates and 1190 postgraduate students in all specialties of medical and allied sciences. He also informed about various courses and diploma programs offered at Dow. He said that the vision and mission of DUHS is focused on three domains, including; academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare. The University, since its inception has been striving to provide maximum possible health services to the community through various ways. He congratulated the young graduates and their parents for acquiring the degree through continuous hard work. He hoped that these graduates will serve the nation with dedication and acquire success in their future endeavors. Others who spoke on the occasion include; Prof. M. Umar Farooq - Pro-Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof. Junaid Ashraf - Principal, Dow Medical College, Prof. M. Masroor - Principal, Dow International Medical College. The Health Minister distributed gold medals, certificates and shields among the outstanding graduates.
