KARACHI- Dow Dental College Graduates & Students Parents’ Action Committee will stage a protest demonstration at Expo Centre Karachi during the opening of the 4th Health Innovation Exhibition (All Pakistan DUHS-DICE), today. The goal of the protest is to appeal for the registration of DDC by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
Convener Dow Dental College Graduates & Students Parents’ Action Committee, Qamar ul Hassan, while talking to PPI, said that Dow Dental College was running without PMDC registration for last six years. More than 90 doctors graduated while 200 are still in undergraduate programme.
DDC has received millions of rupees from its students but could not ensure that they will be recognized by PMDC, or if they would be enabled to practice as dental surgeons. Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) with which DDC is affiliated, failed to fulfill its responsibility in this regard.
Recently, the Ministry of Health Government of Sindh issued its prospectus, which indicated that new admissions at Dow Dental College and DIKIOHS were subject to their registration with PMDC.
Concerned parents are appealing to the Government of Sindh, DUHS, PMDC and the Federal Government to address this issue. They want to know what will happen to the doctors who have already passed from these institutions if the registration does not happen. The graduates spent five to six years, paid millions of rupees, and even the registration fees at PMDC but were refused registration as professionals.
The students with their families will protest at the exhibition ceremony of DICE today.
