KARACHI: The Department of Oral Pathology at the Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan Institute Of Oral Health Sciences (DIKIOHS) recently organized a poster competition among the students of 2nd Year BDS who were divided into eight groups.
The competition was supervised by Dr Arsala Urooj, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral Pathology. The event was organized by lecturers Dr M Ali Naqvi, Dr Ilma Kiran, Dr Dinesh Kumar, and Dr Fatima Siddiq.
The poster topics were selected from the course outline to enhance knowledge and create a healthy competitive environment between the students. The Chief Guest of the event was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences, Dr Zarnaz Wahid. The competition was judged by Dr Ambrina Qureshi, HOD, Department of Community Dentistry, Dr Salik Rasool, HOD, Department of Oral Pathology, Dow International Dental College, and Dr Sofia Ali Syed, Assistant Professor, Oral Pathology, Dow Dental College (DDC). A total of 8 posters on various topics were presented at the event, including oral submucous fibrosis, nursing bottle caries, oral squamous cell carcinoma, oral leukoplakia, oral candidiasis, pathology of the dental pulp, recurrent aphthous ulcer, and cleft lip and palate.
The poster on Oral Leukoplakia ranked third and comprised of students Hatim Aqeel, Anas Ali Raza, Quba Arshad, Areeba Saleem, Madiha Sheikh, Javeria Zaheer, Hamna Khan, and Quratulain Ali. Dr Ilma Kiran mentored the group. The poster onOral Candidiasis ranked second and consisted of members Minahil Tauqeer, Rida Fatima, Mahnoor Yousuf, Maham Ali, Muneeba Khan, Sadia Anwar, Ramsha Naz, Rimsha Sehar, Tehreem Abdul Rehman, and Zunaira Saleh. Dr Fatima Siddiq mentored this group. The winning poster on Recurrent Aphthous Ulcer was prepared by students Munira Saify, Samiya Ansari, Aleena Panhwar, Muhammad Arif, Ammar Raza, Aniqa Shabbir, Kellan Solomon, Sana Mansoor, Jamil Mushtaq, Bilal Khan, Khizra Fatima, and Marium Ali. Dr Dinesh Kumar mentored them.
The students were awarded shields and were presented with a cash prize of Rs5000 to the winning group.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr Shahjahan Katpar, all HODS, and faculty members. The Chief Guest, Dr Zarnaz Wahid, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, appreciated all the participants and encouraged them to take part in such competitions in the future as well.
Vice Principal, Dr Khurram Pervez of Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences, appreciated the students and said that it was a wonderful event, and he was pleased to witness the efforts of such talented students who can work under such time pressure.
