ISLAMABAD: The Department of Community Dentistry of the HBS Dental College recently organized an oral health awareness and free dental checkup camp in the area of Bari Imam, Islamabad, in collaboration with Kaizen Pharmaceuticals. The program was planned and supervised by Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain, HOD, Community Dentistry, under the direction of Dr Riaz Shahbaz Janjua, Chairman, HBS Medical and Dental College, and Prof Dr Arshad Mehmood Malik. The primary purpose of this activity was to promote dental health among the population living there, and their aim was achieved successfully.
Bari Imam is located in the suburbs of Islamabad. Although a large number of people are reported to visit the shrine of Bari Imam daily, it is home to a significant population, but it stills lacks the facility of having a proper medical and dental center. A total of 154 patients were screened in the outreach program, including men, women, and children. The majority had no particular knowledge regarding oral hygiene. The HBS Dental Hospital’s team included Senior Lecturer, Program Coordinator, Dr Usman, and Demonstrators, Dr Obaid, Dr Ali, Dr Kanza, and Dr Tatheer. These skilled professionals provided the services of oral screening, demonstrating proper tooth brushing techniques, consultation, and providing information regarding oral hygiene practices. Patients in this camp were referred to the HBS Dental Hospital for further treatment as per their individual requirements. They also provided the patients with free medication, including mouthwashes, toothpaste, mouth gels, pain killers, and antibiotics.
The Senior Faculty of the HBS Dental College took part in this oral screening camp and screened the patients as well. The participating faculty included Prof Dr Arshad Malik, Principal, HBS Dental College, Dr Shah Salman, Vice Principal, and Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain, HOD, Community Dentistry. The residents of Bari Imam were very pleased with the HBS Dental College for making an effort to arrange a dental camp in their area and hoped to witness further ventures in the future as well.
