Karachi- the fourth preparatory course along with Mock exam was held at a national level. It was as joint venture of Liaqut Medical and Dental College (LCMD) with Pakistan Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS). The activity was aimed to muster trainees at a platform where they can practice on the simulated exam and get better understanding of overall exam process. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi along with Prof. Dr. Syed Mahmood Haider.
Total 38 examiners and eminent supervisors of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery contributed fully to make this activity a success. For this Mock Exam 58 residents of FCPS/MCPS/MSC & MDS programme appeared from different cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta & Peshawar. They explicitly showed their willingness and participated to strengthen their exam preparation.
The course was initiated with welcoming speech by Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi . The first day of the course comprised of one hour “Question Solving Session.” In which difficult questions were discussed under the guidance of experienced examiners. Interactive Question solving session was organized in the presence of expert panel which included Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi, Prof Dr. Mahmood Haider, Prof. Dr. Junaid Lakhani,Prof.Dr. Wahab Qadri, Prof. Dr. Noor ul Wahab, Prof. Dr. kashif Channnar , Dr. Ilyas, Prof. Dr. Tahera, Dr. Aqeel , Dr. Shaheen, Dr Suneel Kumar And Dr Irfan Ali.
Panel answered the queries of residents on different scenario based questions which was brought by residents during session. During this session equal opportunity was given to all participants to interact for one hour & maximized their learning with panel. This learning hour was prominently appreciated by the candidates who attended the session and the panel got remarkable feedback from the residents.
In the second hour of the session a Mock IMM exam (TOACS) was conducted for the 15 IMM candidates in which 15 stations were supervised by 15 different competent examiners.
This IMM exam was then followed by the 3rd and last integral part of the 1st day that was an interactive session of “Small Group Discussions” which was attended by all the candidates. 4 surgical cases were discussed by highly experienced professors and surgeons. The concourse was started by Prof. Dr. Mahmood Haider, Prof. Dr. Junaid Lakhani and Dr. Wahab Qadri on “Trauma Case” it was followed by “Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Case” on which dialogue was exchanged between the residents and the most highly accomplished surgeons Prof. Dr. Naveed Rashid Qureshi, Dr. Suneel and Dr. Irfan Ali. ‘Orthognathic Surgery Case” was conversed by Prof. Dr. Noor ul Wahab and Dr. Ilyas and “Oral Cancer Case” was conferred by Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Kashif Channa.
Second day comprised of Mock exit exam, which was divided into 3 components including Short case, Long case and Grand table Viva, for which patients were called to provide real exposure for the participants. The pattern simulated the National & International postgraduate Exam set up.
The event was made successful by the collaborative effort of Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi (Principal College of Dentistry & Head of Dept. of OMFS, LCMD), whose mentorship has always been a ray of light. Along with other leaders in education, Prof. Dr. Syed Mahmood Haider who inspite of their busy schedules agreed to extend their availability and join us in this quest. LCMD is also grateful to eminent faculties of the maxillofacial surgery who always welcomed, encouraged & supported this idea and stood by our sides at all times in making course complete & successful.
The whole team of LCMD is highly grateful to President PAOMS, Dr. Riaz Warraich who has always boosted and encouraged the fraternity of OMFS to conduct and deliver such educational CME activities for the post graduate residents which will ultimately benefit them in their future endeavors.
Similarly, examiners appreciated the initiative and showed their willingness to participate in such activities in near future as well. Activities like these are significant to polish exam preparation and the residents strongly suggested for organizing such learning exercises biannually.
Lastly, on the conclusion of this monograph, we are thankful and overwhelmed by the management of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry to host and arrange such a scholastic event for the fourth time in past 3 years. It has been of great pleasure to be a part of such graceful company and hope to collaborate again soon for such alike affairs.
