KARACHI: The allotment of an official residence to a junior doctor allegedly in violation of rules by the executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) sparked controversy and tension among the residents of the doctors' colony of Jinnah Hospital Karachi.

As per sources the tensions escalated after the JPMC executive director allegedly disregarded allotment rules by assigning a bungalow designated for a 19th-grade professor to an 18th-grade doctor.

The situation turned ugly when a group of doctors, including some leaders of the Young Doctors' Association, gathered to vacate the disputed bungalow, leading to heightened tension in the doctors' colony. The move was condemned by the Jinnah Hospital Doctors Association.

Reportedly, the YDA leaders engaged in confrontations with senior doctors over occupation of the bungalow in question.

Reacting to the development, the head of the accommodation committee, Prof Shahzad Ali, along with members Prof Khalid Sher, Prof Abdul Manan Junejo, Prof Jahan Alam, Dr Zeeshan Ali, and Dr Bahram Khan, drafted a letter to the health minister, urging the cancellation of the alleged illegal allotment.

Following the letter, the health department deputy secretary formally requested the JPMC executive director to revoke the allotment order.
