Nation’s Leading Dentists Teach Surgical Skills to Karachi’s Dental Students

KARACHI - A Basic Surgical Skills Course was recently organized by the Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS). This course was in continuation of the 10th PAOMS Conference held at the close of 2017. The Surgical Skills Course was organized at Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry Karachi.


This one day hands-on workshop was organized with the purpose of teaching dental students, graduates and postgraduates various preliminary surgical techniques of dentistry which are critical to learn for some standard dental procedures. The techniques taught at the workshop included:




  • Incisions, flap design and bone drilling

  • Flap repositioning and different techniques of suturing

  • Frenectomy

  • Procedure of biopsy taking and marking of sample margins



The leading trainers and teachers of the workshop were prominent Dental Surgeons renowned for their surgical skills across Pakistan; namely Prof Dr Syed Ghazanfar Hassan, Chairman Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Liaquat University of Medical Health Sciences Jamshoro, and Prof Dr Navid Rashid Qureshi, Principal and Head of Department Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at LCMD himself.


The event was well-organized and avidly attended by dental students endeavouring to acquire improved surgical skills for perfecting dental treatments. Regular organization of such workshops in all cities of Pakistan is critical for constant improvement and enhancement of skills of the dental surgeons of the country’s future.  Due to credit goes to PAOMS for consistently greater efforts to impart dental knowledge and training and unite and inspire oral and maxillofacial surgeons on a singular national platform.
