13,000 school kids undergo dental check-ups during UoL oral health week

LAHORE: To raise public awareness about oral hygiene and educate the community on maintaining good oral health practices, the Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry at the University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD), University of Lahore, recently marked Oral Health Week, conducting dental check-ups of 13,000 students.

This initiative, held in collaboration with Colgate Palmolive Pakistan, primarily focused on providing essential health screenings and promoting knowledge of best practices in oral care.

Throughout the week, teams of second-year BDS students, house surgeons, and faculty members visited 12 schools across Lahore, where three teams engaged with students each day, conducting dental check-ups and reaching over 13,000 individuals.

Educational sessions addressed key topics, such as proper brushing techniques, the importance of flossing, and the impact of diet on oral health.

At the University Dental Hospital and University College of Dentistry, approximately 150 people received dental check-ups daily. Oral care product samples were also distributed to encourage quality oral hygiene.

The success of Oral Health Week was attributed to the dedication of team leaders and faculty members, including Dr. Khaloud Tariq, Dr. Zunaira Iqbal, Dr. Seema Shafeeq, Dr. Naiha Muzamil, Dr. Rayyan Sameer, Dr. Zaeem Ihsan, Dr. Salahuddin, and Dr. Aqsa Arif.

Special recognition was given to Prof. Dr. Moghees A. Baig, Dean of UCMD and UCD Principal, for his visionary leadership.

The initiative also received support from Dr. Muhammad Aslam, Medical Superintendent of The University Dental Hospital, and Dr. Arooj ul Hassan, Head of the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, whose expertise played a crucial role in the event’s success.

The event underscored the importance of oral health education and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to enhancing community well-being through continued awareness and engagement efforts.
