New York: Recently, a fact sheet that contains the latest information about the delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 was released by the American Dental Association (ADA).
The notification read that the recommendations by the CDC and ADA, i.e. vaccinate against the virus, use masks in practice settings, and social distancing should be continued.
Vaccinated individuals can still get infected again and transmit the virus to others even if they don’t feel any symptoms themselves.
CDC categorises Delta as a variant of concern (VOC) because it is more transmissible than previous ones. Although it appears less vulnerable to neutralisation by post-vaccination antibodies, it is susceptible to secondary immune responses. Moreover, it seems less vulnerable to control by monoclonal antibody treatment.
Infection by this strain can be detected earlier after exposure and has a higher concentration of viral particles present in infected individuals.
Individuals who are not fully vaccinated have been died, hospitalised in most cases, infected with COVID-19.
The CDC recommends from 2 years of age and older, in areas of substantial or high transmission, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask that covers both nose and mouth indoors and in the presence of crowds of people.
