KARACHI: ‘World cancer day’ is held throughout the world in February, it is a singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic.
This year on account of world cancer day Department of Community Dentistry Baqai Dental College organised an awareness lecture, walk and oral screening at Baqai Cadet Colle. The faculty of Community Dentistry along with the house officers reached Baqai Cadet College at 10:30 am where they were welcomed by the Principal Mr Rahat Mirza and other administrative staff and were directed towards auditorium.
This session commenced as Prof Dr Asghar Ali Shigri addressed the cadets and provided them awareness about what is cancer, oral cancer, its etiology, risk factors and preventive strategies. The prime focus of his session was about the deleterious effects of tobacco, alcohol, betel nut on oral health. This session was attended by approximately 100 students; since it was an interactive session students were given chance to ask questions in the end.
Later on the faculty members and house officers performed oral examination of the students’. Lastly an awareness walk was held in the ground in which all the faculty members and students took part enthusiastically and displayed awareness messages. The entire event was concluded with the Vote of thanks by the Principal of Baqai cadet college.
