Advances in health Sciences- Ziauddin University holds three-day national conference

KARACHI- The Research Department, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ziauddin University, held a three-day National Conference on Advances in Health Sciences with the theme of “Research and Innovation for Better Health”, and Clinical Proteomics Workshop in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation.
The inaugural session was opened with the welcome address by the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. While welcoming the chief guests-Prof Dr Nessar Ahmed and Prof Dr Yvonne Alexander-and others speakers from various part of the country, Dr Pirzada Qasim emphasized on development of research in collaboration with international and national scientists through such platforms.
The highlighted features of the conference were: Sir Dr Ziauddin Memorial Lecture by Prof Dr Nessar Ahmed, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, who emphasized on led and iron deficiency in childhood. His important finding was: the environmental exposure adversely affecting children in Karachi.
The scientific session started with a plenary lecture by Prof Dr Yvonne Alexander,of Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, on ‘the road from disease mechanism to novel therapies’ focusing on atherosclerosis tissue engineering and complex wound healing in diabetes to provide a realistic translation into treatments and cardiovascular reconstructive techniques.
This was followed by the state-of-the-art lectures by Rafat Ali Siddiqui from Indiana University, School of Medicine, USA and Naveed Khan from Agha Khan University. The second session show-case the invited lecture from Agha Khan University and Prof Touqeer Ahmed from NUST Islamabad, who discussed Prions in neurological disease and role of thalamic neuron in emotional learning respectively.
Dr Manzoor Zaidi of Baqai University gave an overview on status of cancer in Pakistan. The afternoon session was dedicated to young scientists from all over Pakistan in the form of Oral and Poster presentations.
This conference of national significance intended to promote advancement in the cutting-edge technology of health related sciences. The conference addressed most of the current trends, development and the achievements in the field of health science researches in an extremely interactive environment.
The conference was attended by a large number of participants from across Pakistan and abroad.
