LAHORE: Dr Javed Akram, Punjab caretaker health minister, has warned that data shows that dengue cases are more prevalent in the areas where construction projects are being carried out.
He was speaking at the Global New Initiatives on Dengue and Prevention in Pakistan, held at the Institute of Public Health.
Dean of the Institute of Public Health, Prof. Dr. Zarfashan Tahir, Dr. Tanvirul Islam and other medical professionals attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Javed Akram emphasised the significant impact of the dengue virus on Pakistan, stressing that proper treatment is crucial for curing patients.
He said extensive research has been conducted on various types and treatments of dengue, highlighting the importance of understanding its causes in order to effectively combat it.
He clarified that platelets do not play a direct role in combating the dengue virus and cautioned against excessive water consumption during dengue infections.
The minister highlighted that dengue is not a new global virus and has affected men more than women in Pakistan.
Emphasizing the significance of doctor training, he underscored its vital role in treating dengue cases.
Urging all stakeholders to contribute actively to the eradication of the dengue virus, he commended the organisers for successfully arranging the international seminar.
