KARACHI: The University of Karachi Syndicate has given initial approval to a proposal for establishing a medical and dental college at the university, recommending the submission of a detailed feasibility report and objective analysis in this regard.
The conceptual approval was granted at the Syndicate meeting chaired by KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi at the VC Secretariat, that will allow the university to invite interested parties to participate in the project.
The KU Syndicate also approved the minutes of the Finance and Planning Commission meeting held on December 29, 2023, and proposed revising the 2024-25 budget at the earliest.
Moreover, the Syndicate approved the appointments of new chairpersons and directors in various departments and institutes, besides granting permission for faculty, staff, and employees to use the campus graveyard for funerals.
In another decision, the Syndicate members agreed to award BPS-19 to temporary assistant professors, upgrading in-service lecturers with BPS-18 to BPS-19 based on their PhD qualifications, subject to the availability of budgeted posts in the respective departments.
KU Registrar Prof Dr. Abdul Waheed, was tasked with reviewing previous Syndicate resolutions and records regarding the upgrade of various non-teaching posts. He will share his findings at the next meeting.
The Syndicate also accepted a recommendation from the Advanced Studies and Research Board to posthumously award an MPhil degree to the late Syed Tanveer Hayder, based on external reports.
New Syndicate members were welcomed at the meeting, and prayers were offered for the departed souls of Iranian President Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi and KU faculty members. The members confirmed the minutes of the previous Syndicate meeting and approved actions taken by the KU VC.
