KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has announced plans to set up a dental unit and laboratory collection centre at the Karachi Press Club (KPC), aimed at providing essential dental and diagnostic services to journalists and their families.
During a meeting held recently, at the Karachi Press Club, Vice Chancellor of JSMU, Prof Amjad Siraj Memon, unveiled this initiative in collaboration with KPC President Saeed Sarbazi, Secretary Shoaib Ahmed, Tufail Ahmed, and members of the Governing Body.
The clinic at KPC will offer primary treatments, including screenings, scaling, and simple extractions, while more specialized procedures requiring advanced equipment will be carried out at JSMU, Prof Memon explained.
Saeed Sarbazi, President of KPC, highlighted the challenges faced by journalists and discussed the health benefits provided by KPC to its members and their families, including the health card scheme.
Recognizing the valuable contributions of the journalist community, the Vice Chancellor expressed JSMU's commitment to offering fee waivers to the children of KPC members who meet the open merit criteria for M.B.B.S or B.D.S programs. Additionally, he pledged partial financial assistance through the University's Financial Aid Committee for other educational programs.
The formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JSMU and KPC is scheduled to be signed in an upcoming meeting.
The meeting was attended by several JSMU faculty members and staff, including Dr. Zubair Abbasi, Principal of Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS-JSMU), Dr. Marium Azfar, Head of Community Dentistry, Engr. Yasir Raza Shaikh, Director of Planning and Development, Professor Syed Mehmood Hasan, Director of Diagnostic Laboratory, Asfiya Aziz, Additional Director of Communications, Kamran Iqbal, Biomedical Engineer, Sidra Mohsin, Public Relations Officer, and Hasnain Abbas, Manager of JSMU Diagnostic Laboratory.
