KARACHI: The Green Crescent Trust (GCT) recently held groundbreaking ceremony marking the initiation of the 164th charitable school to be built by the non-profit organization at Mirpur Sakro village.
Addressing the event, known businessman and former chairman of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), Dr Kaiser Waheed, shared his commitment to the philanthropic cause. He expressed pride in his family's contribution to the construction and operation of a charitable school in the underprivileged rural region of Mirpur Sakro, located 85 kilometers away from Karachi.
Dr Waheed said the school is to be named after his late father, Shaikh Mohammad Anwer Maggoon.
The completion of the school is anticipated within a year, with an initial enrollment of over 200 children from underprivileged families residing in the nearby rural areas.
A generous resident of the area, Shafi Mohammad Samejo, donated approximately 0.75 acres of his farmland for the school's construction.
Expressing gratitude towards the GCT, the former PPMA chairman pledged his family's support in providing quality education to the children of Mirpur Sakro, matching the standards of renowned elite private schools in urban centers.
He announced the Shirazi family's commitment to donation of land for similar high-standard schools across all rural regions of Thatta district.
Renowned retired civil servant and philanthropist Raees Muhammad Irshad lauded the GCT for its efforts for expanding educational opportunities for children hailing from marginalised backgrounds in Sindh. He emphasized that ensuring quality education for every child in Pakistan is a pivotal step towards accelerating the country's transformation into a modern and developed state.
GCT Trustee, Saad Zia, urged the affluent members of society to follow the example set by the selfless villager of Mirpur Sakro, who despite facing financial constraints donated his land for the school. Zia reaffirmed GCT's commitment to its mission of enrolling out-of-school children in rural Sindh, working in close collaboration with partners, sponsors, and donors.
Local dignitaries from Mirpur Sakro, including Saleem Qamar, extended their gratitude to GCT and the former PPMA chairman for their efforts in establishing an educational facility in an underprivileged part of their hometown.
