KARACHI-The 20th Convocation of Fatima Jinnah Dental College was held recently PAF Museum.
Certificates for distinctions, gold medals & cash awards were given to top students of the 20th batch of the college. To date 1334 dental graduates have been produced by the College with BDS degree from the University of Karachi. Students of the last 20 batches have received 275 Gold Medals and have bagged 1841 distinctions in various subjects at University of Karachi Examinations.
This year the convocation was a grand affair and more special as this year the College is also celebrating its Silver Jubilee year. During the proceedings 77 graduates were granted the B.D.S Degree. Best Graduate was awarded to Mashal Talat, who achieved 14 distinctions and was granted six gold medals. 206 distinction certificates were awarded to graduates in various subjects, Gold Medals were also given to 18 graduates (Highest marks in the subject in the university examination). 12 Shields were given to the students who got first second and third position in various annual examinations. Top three graduates were also given special cash awards.
The Chief Guest of this event was Mr. Liaquat Merchant S.I. Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan. Chairman of The Jinnah Foundation, President of The Jinnah Society, Executive Trustee of Quaid-e Azam Aligarh Education Trust and Administrator of Estate of Quaid-e-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He is also the grand nephew of the Founder of Pakistan. Also seated on stage were Professor Mohd. Ajmal Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, Professor Nargis Anjum, Dean Faculty of Medicine, University of Karachi, Dr. S. Baqar Askary,
Chief Executive, Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Dr. Syed Hussain Askary, Director Academics & Permanent Trustee, Fatima Jinnah Dental College & Hospital Trust.
Prof. Dr. Tasleem Hosein, while presenting the Principal’s Report, said that “Post-graduation has always been encouraged by the College as part of its Faculty Development Program. At present we have a total of 28 post-graduate trainees in Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry and Periodontics at this institute. We are affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan for our FCPS and MCPS programs and for our MDS and MSc programs with Ziauddin University. We have already produced 23 FCPS and 5 MCPS.”
The Vice Chancellor, during his speech said, “There are today, about 36 dental institutions functioning in the country, some in their infancy. I would advise them to follow in the footsteps of Fatima Jinnah Dental College and take advantage of their arduous journey to success.”
The Chief Guest, Mr. Liaquat Merchant S.I., also congratulated the College on its great achievement and expressed his great delight to see that Dr. S. Baqar Askary had kept the mission of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah alive. Towards the end Dr. Syed Hussain Askary, gave the vote of thanks.
Mementos and token of appreciation were given to the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Medicine. As a surprised trophy was presented to Dr. S. Baqar Askary, Chief Executive & Head of the Institutions, FJDC, to mark 25 years of his dedication, patience and leadership by Dr. Saqib Rasheed, Head Operative Dentistry, FJDC, President, PDA Central Council on behalf of the entire Faculty. The ceremony was followed by on screen presentation of the College and dinner.
