This year World Oral Health day was a celebration of the theme “Say Ahh, Act on Mouth” in more than 50 countries worldwide, including Pakistan. The powerful message promulgated on that day was to raise awareness about the impact of oral health on general health, and how positive oral health practices can ensure general well-being by reducing disease burden.
Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS) celebrated this occasion on March 20th with great zeal and fervour by arranging oral health awareness activities and free dental checkups. Numerous decorations, art work and thematic posters marked the occasion raising awareness about the day, while simultaneously creating a fun atmosphere.
The event began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by presentation on “World Oral Health Day” by a 1st year BDS student from SIOHS. Poetry and song sessions were organised and performed by the SIOHS students. Students of BDS also participated in poster competition. Posters were judged by Prof. Dr SM Kefi Iqbal, Dean SIOHS, Faculty of Dentistry, and Dr Anita Shah, Deputy Controller of Examinations (JSMU).
Dean Prof. Kefi Iqbal concluded the event by highlighting the importance of oral health. He lauded the efforts of faculty of dentistry for organizing a successful event and students for their active participation in raising awareness regarding different aspects of dental health and oral hygiene. A cake cutting ceremony took place at the closing of the event.
