LAHORE: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry at the University College of Dentistry (UCD), University of Lahore (UOL), conducted a series of seminars for oral health awareness to celebrate World Oral Health Day.
In one seminar, Dr Muhammad Haseeb, Associate Professor and Head of the Periodontology Department, UCD, was invited as a guest speaker to create awareness and share his knowledge with the dental community regarding Peri-implant health.
Dr Haseeb highlighted that the patients must visit the concerned specialist who placed the implants on maintaining dental implants. The specialist can, in turn, identify any ongoing pathology/complication that can be addressed on time.
He said that it was the specialist’s responsibility to tell the patient about the follow-up. He further explained that peri-implant health is considered to be associated with multiple factors, including the periodontal health around the tooth, the bone in which the implant is placed, oral hygiene, and the systematic health of the patient.
He ended the seminar by hammering home the message that maintenance of implant health and minimisation of peri-implant complications are more important than placing implants. We should increase our understanding and knowledge about implant health and longevity.
