Karachi- The importance of qualitative research is increasing and is wide-spread in healthcare. It allows for an in-depth understanding of a process or a phenomenon; yet many people are unaware of the importance of qualitative research in the health care system.
For better understanding and conduction of qualitative research by dentists a workshop was organized at Baqai Dental College (BDC), recently. Dr Ain ul Haq, Head of Medical Education Department, welcomed Dr Sabeena Azia, Head of Medical Education Department & Associate Dean, Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC), Peshawar. The facilitator of the workshop was Dr Naheed Mahsood, Assistant Professor Medical Education Department, KGMC, Peshawar; and it was coordinated by Dr Rubab Jawed Farooqi Associate Research, R & D Department of Baqai Dental College.
The first half of the workshop was a detailed presentation briefing that the aim of qualitative research is to have interactive sessions with individuals and groups to generate in-depth discussions; to watch their behavior; to analyze their objectives; and to take into account the different contexts in which they are based. The second half was followed by a group activity so that the attendants could practically apply what they had learnt from the presentation. Later, queries regarding the conduction of qualitative research were discussed.
Dr Kashif Ikram, Principal BDC, and Dr Talha Siddiqui, Vice Principal BDC, presented a shield to the speaker to appreciate her astounding efforts in organizing the workshop. The workshop was a success and lead to an experience that was both educational and enjoyable.
