KARACHI: The senior faculty members of Fatima Jinnah Medical College recently completed the training course titled Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE).
Dr Sabiha Mirza Khan, Vice Principal and Head of Pathology Department, FJDC and Dr Gulrukh Askary, Director, Academics and Head of Oral Pathology Department, completed the 6-month training course.
This course is one of the requirements of the Pakistan Medical Commission for faculty members. Around 40 plus faculty members of various colleges and universities attended the course based on three modules.
Dr Shaur Sarfaraz Ahmed, Focal Person, Institute of Medical Education, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) and Prof. Dr Syeda Kausar, Chairperson Program Director, Health Professions Education, JSMU, were the trainers of the course. Last year, Dr Shaur Sarfaraz had also conducted the Basic Online Assessment Tools (BOAT) course for FJDC faculty.
Dr Sabiha Mirza said, “We are teachers, and it is essential that we know how to assess the students. Therefore a great part of this learning was how we process knowledge, how to assess students and use various methodologies in teaching.”
Prof. Dr Shahid Rasool, Vice-chancellor, JSMU, presented the completion certificates at JSMU. Feedback was also taken from the participants regarding the course.
