Multan: The Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry (DC&PD) of the Nishtar Institute of Dentistry (NID), under the supervision of its Principal,Prof Dr Riaz Ahmad Warraich, and MS DrIlyasTanveer, has launched a Dental Awareness Programme at the NID. TheProgramme’s first session related to "proper tooth brushing". Tooth brushing is a basic measure to maintain oral hygiene but, unfortunately, most of the people of our community are not aware what type of tooth brush they should use andabout the proper way of brushing. The programme was conducted at diagnostic department along with the second year students. The entire class had to undergo the training session by assistant professor Dr. Muhammad Imran (currently working as Head of Community Department of NishtarInstitute of Dentistry,Multan) and his departmental colleague Dr.Imranzafar. Students were guided about proper tooth brushing and about how to communicate and educate the patients. The daily turnover of Diagnostic Department is approximately 400 patients. On that day, all the patients visiting Diagnostic Department were provided with a free dental check-up facility. On this occasion,Colgate Pakistan exhibited a very good response and arranged toothpaste gifts to all the patients. The students participation was very active as they enjoyed their first interaction with the patients. The Diagnostic Department was tastefully decorated with banners and with stuffs related to proper brushing techniques. This was the very first session of ‘Dental Awareness Programme’ and the subsequent programmes at NID are to be monthly conducted throughout the year.-PR
