Dental Implantology cannot achieve optimum results without bone grafting techniques when needed. The importance of Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) was highlighted at the symposium held in University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore. Dr Asrar Ahmad, the key speaker, described the different techniques of GBR with the help of clinical cases; he discussed the principles of promoting bone regeneration within a bony defect by excluding faster-growing soft tissue cells; he also touched on the advantages of barrier membranes, indications and contraindications of GBR and its success rate.
House surgeons, private practitioners, academicians and dental surgeons from other institutes participated in the symposium. Dean and MS of University College of Dentistry, Prof. Moghees A Baig and Dr Muhammad Aslam, respectively, were the facilitators, while Dr Salman Ashraf, Head of Department Operative and Restorative Dentistry was the moderator. The symposium was concluded with enthusiastic, extensive discussions, followed by which an appreciation certificate was presented to Dr Asrar by the institutional lead. University administration thanked the organizing committee and appreciated the participants.
