KARACHI: The department of health professions education (DHPE) at Liaquat College of Medicine and dentistry in collaboration with postgraduate committee of Medical Education conducted a hands-on workshop on innovative e-learning tools to help its faculty keep up with evolving modern teaching trends and to prepare for year 2023. 


         The workshop that spanned 3 hours was aimed at helping the teaching staff improve on their ability to hold effective lectures and design lesson plans that would increase class participation. 

  The work-shop was conducted by Dr Yusra Nasir, In-charge DHPE , Dr Sabaa Shahid, Demonstrator DHPE & Dr Mahnoor Zahid, Lecturer Oral Biology . The workshop started with a hands on Socrative Application by Dr Mahnoor Zahid . All participants were grouped and were asked to work as a team in learning how to operate and then demonstrate successful conduction of short quizzes, space race and exit ticket on the application.

The second e-learning tool introduced was Padlet by Dr Sabaa Shahid and participants were walked through step by step on how to easily start and run the application to its maximum benefit and would help educators in formatively assessing the taught topic at the end of a lesson.

Next up was a newer interactive app Mentimeter by Dr Yusra Nasir with its unique features of word cloud, polling and Open ended features  was found very interesting by the faculty which  would help educators in formatively assessing, taking feedback and providing reflections of  the taught topic at the end of a lesson.

With active hands on throughout the workshop, participants highly appreciated the way it was organized and timely managed. Faculty requested DHPE series of workshops on e-learning tools and recommended more apps where they needed guidance and hands-on.
