LAHORE: As part of the 16th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD), the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently organized a one-day workshop on dental implants for general practitioners.
Renowned dentist Prof. Dr. Amin-ur-Rahman, a faculty member at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, facilitated the workshop.
The session began with an overview of implant statistics and their historical background. Dr. Amin then discussed alveolar bone and its relationship to teeth and implants, as well as various implant materials and types, including tissue-level and bone-level implants.
Participants were guided through surgical procedure guidelines and steps, with an emphasis on the importance of communication and proper planning for successful implants.
The interactive session included discussions on single-tooth replacement, multiple-tooth replacement, and cemented screw-retained prostheses, besides implant failures, both early and late.
A hands-on session allowed participants to practice on typodont models, with Dr. Amin and his team addressing any issues faced during the exercises.
The workshop concluded with positive feedback from participants.
